Privacy Policy
We wrote this policy to explain, in plain language, what QR Code Scanner asks permission for, what it does with information on your device, and how much control you have over it. A few sections are marked for us to double check against the live app before this goes final, and we've kept those notes honest rather than hiding them.
Overview
QR Code Scanner is an Android app for scanning QR codes and barcodes, creating your own codes, and keeping track of everything you scan or create. This page covers the permissions we ask for and how the app generally handles the information it works with. If anything here feels unclear, our contact page is the fastest way to reach us.
What We Don’t Collect
QR Code Scanner doesn’t ask you to create an account or sign in, so we never collect a name, email address, or password just to let you use the app. The app has never requested access to your location, contacts, phone calls, or messages, the only permissions it asks for are the camera and gallery access described below. If a given build of the app includes advertising or analytics tools, that’s covered honestly in its own section further down rather than glossed over here.
Camera Permission
Scanning a code requires access to your camera, so that's the first permission the app asks for. We only use the camera while the scanner screen is open. Once you back out of the scanner or close the app, the camera isn't being accessed anymore.
Gallery Access
Prefer to scan a code from a picture you already have instead of pointing your camera at it live? The app can request access to your gallery for that one purpose. It's only asked for when you actually use the gallery scan option, not by default.
Scan History
Every QR code or barcode you scan can be saved to a history list right inside the app, so you don't have to remember or rescan something you already looked at. You're free to open that list, revisit an entry, or clear it whenever you want.
Created-Code History
When you use Write and Create Codes to make your own QR code (a URL, text, a contact card, a Wi-Fi login, or an EAN-13 barcode), that creation is saved to its own history, separate from your scans, so you can find and reuse it later without redoing the work.
Application Preferences
The app remembers the choices you make while setting it up: your preferred language, light or dark theme, whether links open automatically, whether it vibrates or plays a sound on a successful scan, and whether scans get saved to history at all. These settings exist purely to make the app behave the way you want on your device.
Advertising and Analytics
Depending on the version of the app you're using, it may include advertising or analytics tools that help keep it running and help us understand which parts people actually use. We're not going to claim no data is collected here unless that's genuinely true for the current build, and we'll name the specific providers involved once this section has been checked against what's actually shipping.
Third-Party Services
Some features may rely on outside services, for things like advertising or analytics. Each of those providers has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data, and we'll link to them directly here once we've confirmed exactly which services are in use.
Data Retention
Your scan history, your created codes, and your app preferences stay on your device for as long as you keep them there. Clearing them from within the app, or uninstalling the app entirely, removes them. We don't hold a separate copy anywhere on our end.
Children’s Privacy
This app isn't built or marketed for children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age required by law in their region. If you have reason to believe a child has used the app in a way that raises a concern, please get in touch and we'll look into it.
Your Choices
- Clear your scan history or created code history at any time, right from inside the app.
- Remove any single item from your favorites or history without clearing everything.
- Turn sound, vibration, auto-copy, or auto-open on or off from Settings.
- Switch the app's language or theme whenever it suits you.
Policy Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes or as requirements around it change. If we make a meaningful update, continuing to use the app afterward means you're accepting the revised version. We'd encourage checking back here occasionally.
